Adoption STAR is a New York State authorized not-for-profit adoption agency. The agency works with prospective parents and birth parents in all cities in New York State to provide comprehensive services including counseling, education and support throughout one’s adoption journey.

About: The Moxie Project is a civic engagement experience at Duke University that combines academic, professional and applied learning experiences to foster social justice leadership in undergraduates. Feminist Camp isn’t really a conference, and it isn’t really a retreat. It’s a front-row seat to feminist work, activism, and action beyond classroom theories. The Haven Coalition is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit made up of volunteers dedicated to supporting people traveling to New York City for abortions. Our volunteers provide a safe place to sleep the night between appointments, dinner, and an escort to and from the clinic. Volunteers can also be available to escort people living in the five boroughs home from an abortion appointment after receiving anaesthesia. The staff at the clinic will contact us to make arrangements.

HITE helps people connect to vital community services quickly and easily. Irth, as in Birth but without the B for bias, a new digital platform to address a root cause of the Black maternal and infant mortality crises—racism and bias in care, launched in the Apple and Google Play app stores today. The app allows Black and brown women and birthing people of color to search and leave reviews of their OB/GYN, birthing hospitals, postpartum care and pediatricians, up to the baby’s first year.
Midwest Access Coalition (MAC) is a non-profit organization that provides support for all costs related to an abortion (except for the abortion cost for which we have a list of supportive organizations to refer folks to). Costs include everything from travel (gas/train/Uber etc), food, medicines, hotel/motel stay. We serve the entire Midwest and not just women coming to Chicago but to any Midwestern state or from any Midwestern state to other states.
Mt. Sinai Adolescent Health Center and CHOICES have a history of collaboration in which we refer clients to one another when those clients need services we do not individually provide. For almost 50 years, the MSAHC has been providing free and confidential primary health care and mental health care, and services to at-risk, vulnerable and underserved teens and young adults ages 10-24 at its center at 312 East 94th Street, New York, New York 10128. The MSAHC is the largest adolescent health center in the United States providing a broad range of free and confidential services, including primary medical care, mental health care, sexual and reproductive services, wellness/health education, and dental and optical services to young people, ages 10-24. The MSAHC services are designed to meet the complex needs of severely traumatized youth.

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is a 404-bed hospital and has served the Jamaica, Queens community since 1891. Regarded as a leading hospital in Queens, New York, they offer a wide variety of patient-centered, expert care to the Queens community. They provide comprehensive OB/GYN services, and offer an innovative group modeled Centering Pregnancy Care Program for pregnant women, combining individual sessions and group support sessions. Jamaica Hospital also provides free breastfeeding education classes, breastfeeding support groups, NICU support groups and postpartum support groups offered in both English and Spanish.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst serves an area of nearly one million people in one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse communities in the United States. Their Women’s Health Service program offers a broad range of specialty care services and their neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is one of the best in Queens. NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst offers childbirth education classes and breastfeeding classes and are nationally recognized and certified as a Gold “Safe Sleep Champion Hospital”, as their family education, staff training, and community outreach programs are dedicated to preventing sleep-related deaths in infants.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens is part of the City’s public health care system, proudly serving the culturally diverse communities of central and southeastern Queens. The hospital-based outpatient OB-GYN Clinic provides primary, preventative, and emergency care for a wide range of OB/GYN needs in a culturally sensitive environment. In addition to the main hospital center there are three satellite clinics, including the Teenage Program (TAP), Communicare/Parsons Medical Center, and Springfield Medical Center.
New York-Presbyterian has been ranked one of the best hospitals in the nation for gynecology. Their centers in Queens are passionate about providing high-quality care to New York City’s most culturally diverse borough, with bilingual staff and interpreter services available to help you communicate the best with your health care team. New York-Presbyterian Queens is a certified “Baby Friendly” Hospital for their superior care and instruction and assistance to mothers who choose to breastfeed. They also offer new mothers support groups, breastfeeding support groups and classes, and “lactation consultants” that are available by phone for any questions or concerns about breastfeeding after you and your baby go home.
Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, a division of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, provides exceptional inpatient medical and surgical care, intensive care, and obstetrics and gynecology services. The hospital is a certified “Baby Friendly” facility, providing optimal care and support and education in breastfeeding. They offer classes and support groups for new parenting and breast feeding as well. The hospital is designated as a Level II NICU and Level II Perinatal Center, and their Emergency Department is a 911 receiving site, a certified heart station, as well as a New York state designated Stroke Center.
Dr. Phyllis Chesler is an Emerita Professor of Psychology and Women’s Studies and the author of twenty books including the best-selling “Women and Madness (1972),” “Mothers on Trial: The Battle for Children and Custody (1986, 2011),” “Woman’s Inhumanity to Woman (2002, 2009)” “An American Bride in Kabul (2013)” “A Family Conspiracy: Honor Killing”(2018) and “A Politically Incorrect Feminist”(2018). She is a co-founder of the Association for Women in Psychology, the National Women’s Health Network, and the Women of the Wall; is the author of four studies about honor killing (“intimate family femicide”), submits affidavits for women in flight from being honor killed and who are seeking asylum; is on the editorial board of Dignity: A Journal of Analysis and Exploitation and Violence; and is a Fellow at the Investigative Project on Terrorism, the Middle East Forum, and the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy. Tanya Walker was recently recognized in the New York Times for her win as a plaintiff in a case brought by the Human Rights campaign against the Trump Administration and their attempt to end Transgender health protections. Link to full article here.
Tanya is a U.S Army Veteran and Co-founder of New York Transgender Advocacy Group (NYTAG). She is currently Board Co-Chair at Equality New York and on the NYPD Police Advisory Board. She is a former Co- President of The New York State Gender Diversity Coalition, and serves on the board of Equality New York as CO-Chair that facilitates the Transgender Women’s Group at SAGE, Midtown Manhattan. Tanya fought for the expansion of LGBTQ rights in New York SONDA & GENDA. Tanya lobbied the Assembly and Senate in Albany for 17 years, helping get gender identity added to existing human rights legislation. GENDA helps to stop Trans and Gender Non- Conforming folk (TGNC) from being discriminated against in the areas of, housing, healthcare, accommodations, credit, and education. In 2016, Tanya joined CHOICES as the Transcare Outreach Coordinator to help launch our Transcare program, completing outreach coordinating linkage agreements with various LGBTQ organizations throughout New York City.

Linda Stein is a feminist artist, activist, educator and writer. She is the Founding President of the non-profit Have Art: Will Travel! Inc (HAWT) for Courageous Kindness, addressing bullying and diversity. HAWT currently oversees two traveling exhibitions: The Fluidity of Gender: Sculpture by Linda Stein (FoG) and Holocaust Heroes: Fierce Females – Tapestries and Sculpture by Linda Stein (H2F2). Additional exhibitions for travel include Sexism and Masculinities/Feminities: Exploring, Exploding, Expanding Gender Stereotypes (SMF); Displacement from Home: What to Leave, What to Take (DC4); I Am The Environment; Facial Profiles: Sexuality and Averting the Gaze.
Stein’s traveling gallery exhibitions are accompanied by lectures, workshops and interactive educational programs developed by a national Curricular Team of scholars in collaboration with Penn State University. FoG has been traveling since 2010, and H2F2 launched in 2015. By 2023, they will have gone to more than 50 museums, universities and institutions within the United States and abroad.
“My goal as an artist,” Stein says, “is to use my art to transform social consciousness and inspire activism for peace, equality and diversity. With my androgynous forms and pop-culture icons, I invite the viewer to seek diversity in unpredictable ways, to ‘try on’ new personal avatars and self-definitions.”
In 2018, Stein was honored as one of Women’s eNews’ 21 Leaders for the 21st Century. In 2017, Stein received the NYC Art Teachers Association/UFT Artist of the Year award, and in 2016, she received the Artist of the Year Award from the National Association of Women Artists for her “Outstanding Contribution to the Arts.” Her art archives are at Smith College and the Linda Stein Art Education Collection is housed at Penn State University. Starting in Spring of 2021 Penn State has endowed, in perpetuity, an annual Linda Stein Upstander Award (with yearly awards starting at $1500) for scholars using Stein’s archives to inspire the Bullied, Bullies and Bystanders to become Brave Upstanders for justice.
In 2016, Linda Stein edited an 84-page, full-color book, Holocaust Heroes: Fierce Females, published by Old City Publishing, including a foreword by Gloria Steinem and essays by notable international scholars and intimates of her ten selected Heroes. That same year, in another anthology, Stein’s 9500-word autobiographical essay, cover design and multi-series art images served as a bridge between two poets for Laura Hinton’s 2016 Jayne Cortez, Adrienne Rich, and the Feminist Superhero. In addition, there have been numerous published reviews and essays about Stein’s work, written by the artist and others, as well as television and radio appearances.
Linda Stein has also been awarded grants and residencies from Squire Foundation, Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture, Djerassi Foundation, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Hunter College, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Suffolk BOCES Arts and Humanities, and the America the Beautiful Fund. She has been awarded large-scale outdoor commissions at Portland State University in Colorado and East Hampton Airport in New York, has had work donated by Gloria Steinem to Smith College and Rutgers University, was invited to participate in the 2008 Adelphi University Outdoor Sculptural Biennial, and is in numerous museum and private collections.
Stein received her Master’s Degree from Pratt Institute, Bachelor’s Degree from Queens College (graduating cum laude with departmental honors), and attended the Art Students League, Pratt Graphics Center and the School of Visual Arts, all in New York. Linda Stein has been represented by Flomenhaft Gallery in Chelsea, New York from 2005 until 2017 and Longstreth Goldberg in Naples, Florida from 2005 to 2012. She has written for Huffington Post and other publications. She currently lives and works in Manhattan, East Hampton and Cambridge, MA.
Judith Lewis Herman M.D. is Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. For thirty years she was Director of Training at the Victims of Violence Program at The Cambridge Hospital, Cambridge, MA. Dr. Herman received her medical degree at Harvard Medical School and her training in general and community psychiatry at Boston University Medical Center. She is the author of two award-winning books: Father-Daughter Incest (Harvard University Press, 1981), and Trauma and Recovery (Basic Books, 1992). She has lectured widely on the subject of sexual and domestic violence. She is the recipient of the 1996 Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and the 2000 Woman in Science Award from the American Medical Women’s Association. In 2007 she was named a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and in 2011 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Trauma Psychology division of the American Psychological Association.
Liz Abzug is the Founder and Executive Director of the Bella Abzug Leadership Institute. She is a national public affairs and strategic consultant, professor, lawyer and former candidate for New York City elective office. Ms. Abzug is a professional involved in many fields including politics, economic and urban development and human rights. She has been a Senior Adjunct Professor in Urban Studies and Women and Leadership at Barnard College /Columbia University where she teaches courses on American Cities, Urban Economic Development and Community Building and Women’s Leadership. She was Professor who developed and taught the Kenneth Cole Community Engagement and Social Action course at Columbia University.
Ms. Abzug formed her own national public affairs and management-consulting firm in 1995. Her firm provides services in the areas of strategic and business planning, public affairs, management and political and health care consulting, marketing, public relations and lobbying. Her clients include small businesses, corporations, not-for-profit organizations, state and local governments, foundations and universities. She works out of a New York City office and has done consulting in many different states and regions of the United States. Ms. Abzug is a renowned public speaker and speaks at colleges, universities, conferences and conventions throughout the United States on topics she is most passionate about including civil and human rights, women and leadership, women in politics, youth empowerment and economic development in urban, suburban and rural America.
Kimberly Seals Allers is an award-winning journalist, five-time author, international speaker, strategist and advocate for maternal & infant health. A former senior editor at ESSENCE and writer at FORTUNE magazine, Kimberly is a leading voice on the racial and socio-cultural complexities of birth, breastfeeding and motherhood. She is the founder of Irth, a new “Yelp-like” app for Black and brown parents to address bias and racism in maternity and infant care. Kimberly also created Birthright, a podcast about joy and healing in Black birth, that centers positive Black birth stories as a tool in the fight for birth justice and to reverse the narrative of negative statistics that is common in mainstream media coverage of Black maternal health.
