Choices is taking a proactive stand to assist women who live in states that have abortion restrictions.

When our doors opened in 1971, our very first patient was from New Jersey, a state that did not allow abortion services at that time. Abortions are more widely available today, but many states have restrictions that make them difficult to obtain.

The out-of-town patient is assigned an out-of-town counselor at Choices, who will assist the patient throughout the process of making an appointment.  If the patient does not have a place to stay after the procedure, Choices has access to discounted hotel rates, which the assigned counselor will help the patient to access.

CHOICES and Haven Coalition

If the patient does not have the finances for a hotel, Choices will coordinate with Haven Coalition, a nonprofit, which has volunteers that can provide a free overnight stay. Furthermore, Haven Coalition can provide a free escort to accompany the patient to and from her abortion.

If the patient does not have funds for the abortion itself, Choices has connections to funding agencies for the abortion and will help arrange funding for the procedure. The out-of-town counselor assigned to the patient will help figure out a payment plan for the balance. 

Choices accepts Medicaid from New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Delaware.
